The Dells were a soul/doo-wop/male vocal group with a sound defined by falsetto singer Johnny Carter and baritone singer Marvin Junior. They formed in 1952 they moved to Cadet in Chicago between the mid 60s and mid 70s. “Run For Cover” was first issued by Cadet in 1966 and soon adopted by the Northern Soul scene where. It remains a classic through to the present day. Copies are highly in demand, ‘Mint’ copies near impossible to acquire on the second-hand market, and even then in excess of £100 a copy. Also still popular with Northern Soul fans is the upbeat dancer “Wear It On Our Face” with its dynamic Charles Stepney arrangement and classic vocal delivery from The Dells from 1968.
